How to Remove Broken Mods — A safe, step-by-step recovery plan when a Paralives mod is causing crashes, missing assets or save errors.

A broken mod can cause anything from missing textures to full-on launch crashes. The fix is almost always the same: identify the culprit, remove it cleanly, restart, and verify. This guide walks you through the safest order of operations so you don't accidentally corrupt a save.

Spotting a broken mod

  • Game crashes on launch or right after the splash screen.
  • Pink/magenta placeholder textures on furniture, clothes, or terrain.
  • Interactions or menus that loop, freeze, or do nothing when clicked.
  • Saves that refuse to load or load with missing objects.
  • Console or log warnings mentioning a specific mod name.

Step 1 — Disable, don't delete (yet)

Open Main Menu → Mods and toggle the most recently added mod OFF. Restart and test. If the issue is gone, you've found your culprit without losing any files.

Step 2 — Narrow it down

If you can't tell which mod is the problem, disable half of your mods, restart, and test. Keep halving until the broken mod is isolated — this binary-search approach beats disabling them one by one.

Step 3 — Remove the mod

  1. 01Workshop mods: open the mod's Workshop page and click Unsubscribe. Steam deletes the local files automatically.
  2. 02Manual mods: close Paralives, then delete the mod's folder from C:/Users/YOUR_USERNAME/AppData/LocalLow/Paralives/Mods.
  3. 03Restart Paralives so the game fully unloads the removed mod.
  4. 04If Steam left orphaned files behind, right-click Paralives → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.

Step 4 — Rescue your save

If a save won't load after removing a mod, roll back to a save from before the mod was installed. Paralives keeps several recent autosaves, so check the load menu carefully before assuming the save is lost.

Prevent it next time

  • Install one or two mods at a time so you always know what's new.
  • Keep a manual backup save before adding any major gameplay mod.
  • Check each mod's listed Paralives version before installing.
  • Read the latest comments on the mod page — other players usually report breakage first.
